{"id":277,"date":"2018-04-10T05:44:05","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T05:44:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/2018.turku.wordcamp.org\/?page_id=277"},"modified":"2018-04-10T05:44:05","modified_gmt":"2018-04-10T05:44:05","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/turku.wordcamp.org\/2018\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.org\/\">WordPress<\/a>, the free and open source personal publishing software\u00a0that powers over 75 million sites on the web.<\/p>\n<p>WordCamps come in all different flavors, based on the local communities that produce them, but in general, WordCamps include sessions on how to use WordPress more effectively, beginning\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.org\/extend\/plugins\/\">plugin<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.org\/extend\/themes\/\">theme<\/a>\u00a0development, advanced techniques, design, security, etc. To get an idea of the types of sessions typically seen at WordCamps, check out the videos from the previous events in Finland:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.tv\/event\/wordcamp-finland-2015\/\">2015<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.tv\/event\/wordcamp-finland-2016\/\">2016<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.tv\/event\/wordcamp-helsinki-2017\/\">2017<\/a> and 2018 (coming soon).<\/p>\n<p>WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other.\u00a0For more information on common WordCamp elements, read about\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/central.wordcamp.org\/what-to-expect\/\">what to expect<\/a>\u00a0at a WordCamp.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/central.wordcamp.org\/wordcamps\/san-francisco-2006\/\">first WordCamp<\/a>\u00a0was organised in San Francisco by Matt Mullenweg in 2006, and since then local communities around the world have organized\u00a0hundreds of others.
